What are facial fillers?

The Facial fillers used by the Facial Surgery UK team are made from hyaluronic acid, a clear gel that already exists in the human body. It attracts water, hydrating your skin.

Hyaluronic Acid is non-animal-based and poses no risk of animal disease transmission or allergic reaction.

What are fillers used for?

Fillers can be used to treat superficial fine lines, facial folds and creases and facial volume loss.

Injectable facial fillers can restore volume and firmness to the lips and cheek area, fill out hollow areas of the face, and rejuvenate wrinkled hands. Although fillers do not directly treat excess sagging skin, these soft tissue fillers can provide immediate results at a lower cost than surgery. The results from filler treatments can last up to six months, and be repeated to maintain a youthful appearance.

We all want fillers to last as long as possible, but don’t want bumps from over-injecting. Gradual, precise and pointed is our method. The most superficial lines, those that appear “etched” into the skin require the thinnest and least viscous fillers.

As the need for more volume replacement increases, fillers are placed deeper and can be thicker.

Medium thickness fillers are used for actual folds in the skin and deeper creases, such as the naso-labial folds. Naso-labial folds run from the corner of nose to the corner of the mouth. Medium depth fillers also may be very effective for melo-labial folds that run downward from the corners of the mouth to the jaw; otherwise referred to as “marionette” lines. These thicker fillers are also longer lasting than the thin, superficial fillers.

What happens before the procedure?

Prior to injection of the facial filers, the patient’s medical history is checked, consent and photos taken and then a topical anaesthetic is applied to the areas to be treated.

What will I look like after the treatment?

It is common for the areas treated to be red, swollen and bruised for a few days to a couple of weeks. We recommend the use of an ice pack on the treated area and the application of Restylane Recover Cream.

What should I do after the treatment?

Avoid putting on makeup on the treated site for about 8 hours and avoid strenuous activities, exercise and alcohol for at least 6 hours.

How long does the facial fillers last?

Depending on the type of filler used the effects may last between 6 and 12 months.
